LSU's dramatic fake field goal over Florida (VIDEO)

The ball wasn't supposed to bounce on the ground.
But it bounced LSU's way. Again. LSU's 33-29 win @ Florida will go down in SEC lore and propelled the Bayou Bengals to No. 9 in both polls.

LSU edges Florida, 33-29

"Jarrett Lee! Jarrett Lee! Jarrett Lee!"

After weeks of hearing boos from the LSU faithful -- despite an undefeated record --- the Fighting Tigers on Saturday heard cheers seconds after a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the No. 14 Florida Gators.
The two-quarterback system of Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson operated wonderfully and efficiently, giving the Gator defense fits.
LSU stumbled at times, most notably Jefferson's interception in the first quarter that allowed Florida to score their first touchdown. Again in the second half, Patrick Peterson, muffed a kickoff.
But LSU overcame it. More importantly, coach Les Miles got a huge monkey off his back after last week's debacle (still a win) against Tennessee. It was the first time he actually outcoached somebody too.
Urban Meyer literally couldn't guess right against the Tigers as Miles hit him with Lee for a spell then Jordan for a span.
In the process, LSU may have discovered lightning in a bottle for their until-now anemic offense.
And that's saying something.

LSU vs. Florida: A Tale of Two Quarterbacks

Having resigned itself to a two-quarterback system from here on out, the 5-0 LSU Tigers are hoping one of them -- near-sighted Jarrett Lee or the numb-armed Jordan Jefferson -- can emerge with a hot game to win in Gainesville.

LSU with nary a loss and five wins over BSC opponents (which no other team in the country can say) can expect to crack the top 10 with a win.
If Florida comes out victorious, look for the Gators to lick their chops at another chance to take down Alabama in the SEC Championship Game and a shot at a national title.
LSU coach Les Miles has been lampooned for the whole seven days since his team squeezed by an undermanned and ultimately unprepared Tennessee team. But Miles, bumbler as he is, is not a wobbler.
Gators coach Urban Meyer, after losing to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game last year, quit then changed his mind.
And you wonder why the teams play so wishy-washy?
Lord knows what he'll do at season's end.
At any point, someone has to win this game. And a quarterback has to find his way.

FLORIDA IS V.B. (Very Beatable)

Starting the season, we heard alot about how the Florida Gators were returning all their starters, and how they were only losing Percy Harvin, and how Superman would lead the way to another Hiesman and championship.
And, truth be told, the mighty undefeated Gators are still in the thick of things, meaning the BCS.
But something happened two weeks ago, that has sparked a belief that the Gators might not make it to Pasadena this year to defend their title.
After a defensive slugfest with LSU , a who-had-the-ball-last-wins battle royale with Arkansas , and a messy mistake-o-rama with Mississippi State , the mighty, mighty Gators look V.B.: Very beatable.
The zebras, I'm afraid, can only do so much.
Tim Tebow is human after all, after throwing 2 picks returned for touchdowns Saturday.
LSU proved that the Gators couldn't throw the ball with ease.
Arkansas proved that the defense was suspectible to the long ball. Ole Miss proved that pressure can bust a pipe.
What will the Georgia Bulldogs prove this Saturday?
You heard it here first: There's no way the Gators go undefeated through the SEC and make it out of the championship game.

5 Reasons Why LSU Lost to Florida 13-3

There are probably more reasons, some ever so slight, subtle even. But here are 5 reasons why LSU is not 6-0 after going up against the No. 1-ranked Gators.

JORDAN JEFFERSON IS REGRESSING
Jordan Jefferson is obviously afraid to throw when facing zone coverage. The Florida Gators have but to thank the Georgia Bulldogs, who befuddled Jefferson last week with zone blitzes and outright zones before being outran by his agile scrambling. Jefferson becomes shell-shocked, frozen almost, when facing opposing players spread out across the field. Florida went to it heavily in the second half, and it produced instant success as Jefferson was sacked on successive plays for the second straight week.

PENALTIES
LSU seemed to have a case of nerves early, committing crucial penalties that methodically prodded the Gators down the field on their first possession. Both teams had the whistles working - combining for 15 penalties for over 100 yards -- but it was the Tigers that got the brunt of them. Offsides on Rahim Alem on several early plays? Crazy.

TIM TEBOW IS ...
Superman? Well, he played like Clark Kent in Tiger Stadium, and that was just enough for the back-from-concussion superstar. Tebow had a very pedestrian 134 yards in the air (38 on the ground), but it's the third and shorts and get you when you play the Gators. Florida's array of weapons -- Jeffery Demps, Riley Cooper, Hernandez -- makes it difficult to focus just on the Caped One. Still, Tebow made his presence felt, at least two probable-sacks were miraculously eluded during the game, leading to Gator points.

WHERE WAS SHEP?
Wildcat-quarterback Russell Shepard played nary a down Saturday, to the chagrin of Tiger fans everywhere. Why? He almost broke the Georgia game open with several wildcat runs, but against Florida he didn't even get the chance. It's not like Jefferson was in a zone or anything. As bad as LSU needed an offensive spark, Shep should have played. Period.

O FOR CHAVIS?
Maybe LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis just can't be Florida, even with purple in gold instead of popsicle orange. The man had a decent scheme, don't get me wrong, but with LSU's brawn I thought we needed a little more of a Chess match with Urban Meyer, not mano-a-mano. Maybe the Gators are just the one team Chavis can't master. Everybody has one.

Bottom line: LSU got whipped. We'll take it like men and try to win the rest of 'em. Florida fans, hope to see you in Atlanta.

Tiger Fans Calling Gator Players - AGAIN

If you needed any more omens that Saturday night's contest between No. 4 LSU and No. 1-ranked Florida was more than a football game, ask any number of Gator players. Evidently, LSU fans are literally calling some of them to spook them out before Saturday's game at Death Valley.
ESPN reports that even coach Urban Meyer has gotten texts, and that this is not new, but went on last year as well.
"They haven't been bad," said second-string quarterback John Brantley, who will likely start Superman himself, Tim Tebow, can't go due to his week-old concussion. ""[The calls are] just a little annoying," Brantley said.
But just a little annoyance is all the Tigers may need to pull off the upset.
I'm going with my Tigers-- and my gut -- on this one: LSU 21-Florida-17

Tebow Sports Bible Scripture On Face in Rout of Georgia

Florida's Tim Tebow rocked an unusual look on Saturday, wearing a Bible Scripture above his cheeks. The Scripture is Philippians 4:13, which says "I can do all things through him who strengthens me." There are also other translations that all say basically the same thing. Tebow and Florida walloped Georgia 49 - 10.

Operation Take Down Tebow Begins

We actually tried to take him out last season, but alas, he's a toughie. Saturday's game in the swamp between LSU and Florida is just unfinished gumbo. Last year LSU knocked every single quarterback they faced out of the game up until Tebow. This week, LSU defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois just made it public knowledge when he told reporters that LSU would “try our best to take (Tebow) out of the game.”
LSU officials quickly defended the statement, but is there really a need? This is the SEC. Tebow already has guaranteed employment on Sundays as soon as next year, if he wants it. It's gonna be even worse then. And know what? Jean-Francois will be there, too. And the mission will be the same.

Why Florida lost to Auburn: Stomach pains?

As the Gators prepare to face LSU this week, a new culprit emerged from Saturday's loss to Auburn.
It wasn't Tim Tebow's arm that doomed the mighty Gators.
It was offensive coordinator Dan Mullen's stomach.
Mullen had been in the hospital the night before in severe pain, and gutted it out by showing up for the game. Still, coach Urban Meyer refused to see it as a negative if your play-caller is sweating profusely and his insides are burning.
"The negative right now is we probably have 10 seniors," Meyer said. "How many of which are actually playing a lot? ... How are we going to respond? Obviously, I don't have that answer. I feel like there's a lot of character on this team and some good people."
The Gators showed they can come from behind, rebounding from a 14-0 halftime deficit and tying the game at 17 with 7:36 remaining. They even looked like they might pull off a comeback, but the imaginative offensive play-calling that had put 59 point on the board just two weeks ago, couldn't come up with much more than Tebow run plays on 1st and 2nd down (leaving about 3rd and 2) then throwing it on 3rd down. The offense, predictably, stalled on its final drive.
Doesn't the Florida staff have sick days? Geez. How many of us would report to work - even check ourselves out of the hospital - to go to work? Obviously, it showed.
Even the commentators posed questions about Mullen's play-calling, especially since Tebow ran 16 times — often right up the middle. There were even more eyebrows raised when it was learned that Mullen had an emergency appendectomy late Friday night.
Mullen was having side pains at dinner Friday and then had blood tests. Meyer said he learned about 11:30 p.m. that Mullen needed surgery.
Mullen missed the team's first walkthrough but arrived at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in time for the game.
"He is a tough guy," Meyer said. "He did everything he possibly could. That didn't affect the game. He still called a fine game. We still could have done things better."
Forced to punt to Auburn with about 4 minutes to play, Chas Henry shanked one 25 yards — the last of the four special teams miscues.
The other three were:
—Florida was flagged for running into the punter on Auburn's opening possession, which turned good field position into a first down and the Tigers eventually scored a touchdown on the drive.
—The Gators had a 34-yard field goal attempt blocked in the second quarter.
—They faked a punt and picked up the first down late in the third, but were flagged for illegal formation and were forced to kick it away.
"It hurts a lot," Medder said. "It feels like you're getting stabbed."
The final blow came after the shanked punt. Quarterback Brandon Cox, obviously hyponotized into believing he is an All-American, played way above his head. And running back Ben Tate drove Auburn into position for the game-winning field goal with powerful runs that seemed to break Florida's will with every yard.

Tommy Tuberville silenced his critics, at least, for a week. But he's still on an island. The university president doesn't celebrate with him, the fans know that his best teams are behind him. But he got to laugh last on Saturday. For once this season, everything he tried worked. Even freshman Wes Byrum made a 43-yarder — twice — to snap Florida's 11-game winning streak and its 18-game home winning streak. War Eagle?
